This study especially focuses on the plants traditionally used in indigenous systems of medicine in Sri Lanka, such as Ayurveda, as described below. Traditional medicine refers to any ancient and culturally based health care practice differing from scientific medicine and is largely transmitted orally by communities of different cultures. Traditional system of medicine is one of the centuries-old practice and long-serving companion to humankind in the fight against disease and in leading a healthy life. Sri Lanka’s first–ever Institute of Traditional Plants was launched in Negombo and celebrated at the Cinnamon Grand under the patronage of Ton Ton Metal Lanka(Pvt) Ltd.
