The new move has been initiated following a discussion with a group of Japanese representatives, who are currently in Sri Lanka to make a feasibility study tour on the possibility of promoting Ayurveda medical studies in Japan. The Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship Association recently submitted a proposal on introducing the Ayurvedic studies in Japan.

The promotional activities of Ayurveda medicine in Japan has been coordinated by the Lankan Consul General in Japan and the Japan activities are being coordinated by the Sri Lanka Consul General in Japan and Chairman of Japan-Sri Lanka Cultural Trade Centre, Sunil Gamage.
