Project Summery

When it comes to helping children in need, there are many ways for you to get involved and make a difference. From sponsoring children to making donations to our Children’s Greatest Needs program, your generous support allows us to provide food, clean water and health care to children in need all over the world. Although these basic needs are urgent, some children have other problems, like getting to school.

Many children in Sri Lanka face considerable challenges in getting a good education. Some children live many miles from the nearest school, making walking to school very difficult, if not impossible. Without access to quality schooling, children have less chance of emerging from poverty and their chances of a happy, prosperous future are greatly diminished. This is why ChildFund launched the Dream Bike campaign.

Project Challenges

These bikes are more than just a mode of transportation — they are a way for children in need to fulfill their dreams and work toward a better life. Many children in developing nations are forced to abandon their education when they cannot get to school regularly. By donating to the Dream Bike campaign, you are ensuring that children can get to school and receive the education they need.

Sadly, girls are often overlooked when it comes to education opportunities in developing nations. That is why your generous gift of $100 to purchase a bicycle for a child in need will be used to provide bikes to school student in Sri Lanka. In addition to enabling girls to get to school, bicycles also reduce their commute, leaving more time for their studies.

A Bicycle – The Great Equalizer

Education is the ticket out of poverty for kids in rural India. Unfortunately, many rural students are forced to drop out each year because of the long distances they have to travel to school each day.

A bike provides security on the road and helps kids get to school faster so they arrive with more energy to learn. What’s more, a bike can actually help a student get better grades!

The long-term impact of a bike on a child’s life can be huge. A good education helps a child get a good paying job, which in turn lifts up the whole community. Literacy among girls is also statistically the most important factor in preventing childhood marriages.
